PREMONSTRATES IN SLOVAKIA

The Premonstrates were one of the first religious orders to settle in the territory of medieval Slovakia, following the Benedictines and Cistercians. They were the first canonical order in our region, living according to the Rule of St. Augustine. They served as an active preaching order, living in community behind the monastery walls in apostolic poverty, spreading the Word of God and providing pastoral care in entrusted parishes. They established their monasteries in strategic locations—near marketplaces, river fords, roads, and major crossroads.
